The infighting in Libya is continuing and the need to take refuge in the peaceful and hospitable land is becoming increasingly urgent. The survival instinct of the people involved in the uprisings is reflected in the increased visibility of migrants, civil investing all their hopes concerning the forces and of our coasts, now more than ever become a place of salvation. Today
Lampedusa is the main flagship of these people who challenge the sea with the only desire to save. Unfortunately, the epilogue is not always positive.
sightings of makeshift boats from the island have suffered and still suffer a sharp increase, which becomes increasingly difficult to manage: Coast Guard, Italian associations and voluntary groups are now engaged daily in the face of non-chaotic overcrowding that reach our shores in precarious conditions to say the least, and in ensuring that their sites can accommodate all of them. The situation does not improve, because in recent days have arrived in Lampedusa new barges, the air bridges are not sufficient to stem the mass of people crowded on the island and the shelter is saturated. The protected marine area and the "House of brotherhood" of the parish have been proposed by the managers as temporary solutions. Hopefully able to contain 1623 people landed on the island two days ago and those whose arrival is expected in the coming days.
addition to enabling and organize local resources to provide relief, the municipal administration of Lampedusa, led by Mayor Bernard De Rubeis, is committed to safeguarding the image of the island, stating that it is not landing, but recoveries (derogatory term), to which the island has become accustomed and prepared, but the number could be a problem for the approaching season. Information, not required, as claimed by De Rubeis, "considered the great work of solidarity that is making the island for the whole European community."
